A Russian An-26 military transport plane crashed in Crimea, killing 29 people, according to Russian news agencies citing information from the Russian Ministry of Defense on the morning of April 1st.
According to the TASS news agency, the plane lost contact before crashing into a cliff in Crimea, a peninsula in the Black Sea annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that there were 29 people on board, including 23 passengers and 6 crew members, all of whom perished. Initial reports did not mention any survivors.
Meanwhile, the RIA Novosti news agency reported that preliminary assessments suggest the accident may have been caused by a technical malfunction.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet issued any further official comments beyond the initial information. An investigation into the specific cause of the accident is underway.
The An-26 is a light military transport aircraft designed by the Soviet Union, widely used in a variety of military logistics and transport missions.
