A sperm donor carrying a cancer-causing gene mutation has fathered approximately 200 children in 14 countries. Some of these children developed cancer and died at a very young age.

Dozens of European families are facing medical tragedy after discovering that the sperm donor they trusted actually carried a cancer-causing gene mutation. This man, completely unaware of his genetic condition, became the biological father of at least 197 children across Europe.

This shocking conclusion was revealed in an investigation by 14 public broadcasters, including the BBC. According to doctors, some of the children conceived from this sperm source developed cancer and even died at a young age.

The medical community is shaken.
According to the Daily Mail, the donor is an anonymous student who began donating sperm in 2005 and continued regularly for 17 years. Standard tests showed him to be healthy. But a portion of his cells contained a gene mutation that existed before he was born – a rare variant of TP53.

TP53 is the body's "gatekeeper" gene, preventing cells with damaged DNA from continuing to multiply. When this gene malfunctions, the natural defense mechanism is almost completely broken.

Although most of the donor's body did not carry the mutation, it is estimated that up to 20% of his sperm contained the faulty TP53 gene. Children born from these sperm will carry the mutation throughout their cells and face Li-Fraumeni syndrome – a genetic disorder that significantly increases the risk of cancer.

For children born through IVF, the lifetime risk of cancer can be as high as 90%, including breast cancer, bone cancer, brain tumors, and many childhood cancers such as leukemia. At the time the man began donating sperm, this rare variant was unknown and could not be detected by standard screening.
