Dramatic Rescue Under Brooklyn Bridge: NYPD Saves Woman and Her Cat from Raging River

A heart-stopping rescue unfolded beneath the Brooklyn Bridge when a woman and her white cat were swept into the powerful currents of the East River.
Just before 3 p.m., officers from the NYPD responded to reports of a person in distress. They were soon joined by the FDNY and NYC Parks officers, racing against time to reach the victims.
Bodycam footage captured the terrifying moment as the woman screamed for help, clinging desperately to a life preserver thrown into the churning water. Officers worked quickly, securing a rope and pulling her toward safety.
Then, in a sudden twist, one officer spotted something else drifting nearby —
👉 “The cat! The cat!” he shouted
A rescuer immediately broke away to save the small white cat, struggling in the freezing water, while the rest of the team focused on bringing the woman ashore.
Once on land, the woman collapsed in tears, overwhelmed by fear and exhaustion. She was rushed to a hospital and is now in stable condition.
The cat also survived and was seen wrapped in a towel, recovering safely.
👉 Authorities are still investigating how the woman and her cat ended up in the river.
