BREAKING: Routine Surgery Turns Into Nightmare: Melbourne Woman Says Hospital Performed the Wrong Operation

A Melbourne grandmother says her life was permanently changed after what she describes as a devastating surgical error during what was expected to be a routine procedure.
Debra Buchanan went to Sunshine Hospital for the removal of a small cancerous skin lesion. Instead, she says she underwent a completely different operation without her knowledge or informed consent, leaving her permanently disfigured and facing ongoing physical and emotional trauma.
According to Debra, confusion involving another patient with a similar name may have contributed to the incident. She says she later learned that the wrong procedure had been performed and has since sought legal action while calling for greater accountability and stronger patient safety measures.
The case has raised serious questions about patient identification, informed consent, hospital procedures, and surgical safety. Debra hopes that by sharing her story, other patients will never have to experience a similar medical mistake.
