Elon Musk speaks out on Cybertruck explosion outside Trump hotel

Billionaire Elon Musk has said that 'the entire senior Tesla team' is investigating what happened, after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump hotel.

The Tesla owner said that the team would "post more information as soon as we know anything", adding that "we have never seen anything like this". In a post on the X platform on January 1, he also referred to an "explosion" when the vehicle exploded, the Guardian reported.

"We have confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb in the trunk of the rental Cybertruck and was not related to the vehicle itself," he added in a later post. The incident left one person dead and seven others injured.

In a follow-up post, Musk speculated that the incident was “likely a terrorist attack” and questioned whether there was a connection to the New Orleans truck crash earlier in the day. Authorities said they were treating the incident in New Orleans as a terrorist incident.

The Cybertruck contained fireworks, as well as gas and camping fuel. CNN quoted an unnamed law enforcement official as saying that authorities suspect the unidentified driver of the vehicle detonated some kind of explosive device.

The vehicle involved was a Tesla Cybertruck pickup truck, which has a body that resembles a stealth fighter jet and is manufactured by Musk’s company.

Musk has been a prominent supporter and donor to Trump’s presidential campaign over the past year. Mr Trump has appointed Mr Musk to co-head the Department of Government Efficiency, which seeks to cut costs across the federal government after the new administration is sworn in on January 20.
